About Us

The IILPM

We are a worldwide organisation of legal project management and legal process improvement experts focused on improving legal matter management and legal operations.

Since February 2017, we have provided research, published global practice guides and frameworks, developed workplace tools and delivered practical education that leads to internationally-recognized credentials.

We help lawyers and other legal professionals build their legal project management and legal process competencies and become more multi-disciplinary professionals.

The Institute has a network of Accredited Training Providers (ATPs), that alone, or in collaboration with University Partners, offer live courses in legal project management and legal process improvement that lead to globally-recognized certifciations.

IILPM course graduates come from law firms, in-house legal departments and courts from 60 countries.

Our vision

The International Institute of Legal Project Management is enabling a new paradigm for the Legal Services Delivery Experience.

Traditional service models no longer meet the needs of stakeholders in the emerging legal ecosystem.

At the IILPM, we believe that by using human-centred project management and process improvement practices, legal professionals around the world can improve legal service delivery, independent if they are a law firm, in-house Counsel, juridical body or alternate legal service provider.

We establish global standards and a professional community to support, develop, certify and empower legal professionals who believe in positive change.

We define legal project management as the “application of project management principles and practices to enhance the delivery of legal services”.

Good legal service delivery requires effective systems and processes. We define legal process improvement as, “a structured methodology for optimizing legal and business processes, so that legal professionals can deliver high-quality, cost-effective services in less time and with less effort”.

Our focus is on team development, improved systems and processes through legal process improvements, and efficient matter management and in-house project initiatives through a legal project management approach, makes for better outcomes for delivering legal-based services.

Together, we are making a positive global impact on the practice of law.
